PURPOSE:To display different colors and patterns on the same display part, by laminating liquid crystal cells of 2 layers through a common substrate, connecting the segment electrodes of each liquid crystal cell by making a group between the layers, and applying the signals which are out of phase from each other, to common electrodes of the liquid crystal cells. CONSTITUTION:Liquid crystal cells 11, 12 using TN-type liquid crystals 5, 6 obtained by melting 2-color dyestuff of red and green are laminated through a transparent substrate 3. Segment electrodes S1.1, S1.2, S1.3 and S1.n, and S2.1, S2.2, S2.3 and S2.n of the liquid crystal cell 11 and 12 are formed on the upper and lower surfaces of the substrate 3, and are opposed to common electrodes C1, C2. Said each segment electrode makes a group between layers and is connected to a driving circuit 7. Also, to the common electrodes C1, C2 of the liquid crystal cells 11, 12, electric signals which are out of phase from each other are applied by the driving device 7. By an hourly variation of this driving signal waveform, red, green, black and white pattern images whose pattern and color are different are obtained without complicating the electrode wiring. |
