<p>PURPOSE:To produce a feature matrix in order to discriminate the characters with high speed and accuracy, by dividing the subpatterns with different dividing numbers in case the subpattern of each direction is divided within a character frame. CONSTITUTION:The optical signal supplied from an optical signal input 1 is converted into a digital signal through a photoelectric converting part 2 and then stored in a pattern register 3 in the form of an original pattern. At the same time, the line width of the input pattern is calculated at a line width calculating part 4. The line width from the part 4 and each pattern from the register 3 are applied to subpattern extracting parts 5-8 to extract the vertical, horizontal and oblique subpatterns. These subpatterns are applied to a feature matrix extracting part 11. On the other hand, the character frame circumscribed to the character pattern within the register 3 is extracted through a character frame detecting part 9. The result of this extraction is applied to a character frame division deciding part 10, and the decision of the part 10 is fed to the part 11. Then the subpatterns are divided with different dividing numbers. Thus the characters can be discriminated at a discriminating part 12 with high speed and accuracy.</p> |
