PURPOSE:To improve the shape in the transverse direction of a strip by shifting the work rolls of 6-stages rolling mills consisting of work rolls, backup rolls and intermediate rolls to each other in their axial center direction and applying a bending effect upon the intermediate rolls without shifting said rolls in their axial center direction, CONSTITUTION:The upper, lower work rolls 2, 3 of 6-stages rolling mills are held shifted beforehand in their axial center directions in opposite directions in conformity with the width of a material 1 to be rolled and in such a state, the rolls are supported freely rotatably by journal boxes 8 and are rotated by means of driving devices 14, 15 via spindles 12, 13 and joints 11. Upper, lower intermediate rolls 4, 5 are applied with bending by bending devices 17 without shifting the rolls in their axial center direction. Thus the work rolls are shifted to each other in their axial center direction, the material to be rolled is rolled by the end parts of both rolls and bending is applied upon the intermediate rolls, whereby the material is rolled to a plate having a good shape in its transverse direction. |
