PURPOSE:To make the filtering area of an air cleaner wider than that of a conventional filter element having the same height as said cleaner by providing denser flutes of a filter medium on the outer peripheral side thereof. CONSTITUTION:A raw material 10A is folded along a line 102 located in the center between adjacent lines among lines 101 connecting the corners of an outer peripheral edge and an inner peripheral edge, and the crest parts and the root parts are respectively formed to provide a corrugated shape. The raw material 10A is downwardly folded back on the outer peripheral side of the crest parts taking the line 101 as a ridge, permitting a folded part 103 to form a double folded structure. Hereby, the height of the corrugation is made uniform, although in the first folded state it was high on the outer peripheral side, and the density of the flutes is also made equal in both the inner and outer peripheries thereof. The filter medium 10 of a series of ring shaped bodies is provided by connecting the end parts of a plural number of raw materials 10A to each other. By forming a cylindrical inside seal member 11a and an outside seal member 11b while molding in a body rubber or synthetic resin on the internal and external peripheral surfaces of the filter medium 10, a filter element 1 is provided. |
