PURPOSE:To obtain data on the thickness of coating quickly and to cope with thickness deviation therein by a method wherein the true thickness of coating is individually obtained by the correction coefficient of the thickness using ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:Since the outside diameter d of a core and the D of a cable have been correctly measured, the value D-d, or what is obtained by subtracting the outside diameter d of the core from that D of the cable is equal to the sum of th true thicknesses a', b' of the cable coating a'+b'. On the other hand, the measured thicknesses a, b of the cable 5 are proportional to the true thicknesses a', b', so that the coefficient of correcting the measured thicknesses a, b of the coating. Accordingly, the true thicknesses a', b' can be obtained by multiplying the measured values a, b by the correcting coefficient. Thus a combination of the measurement of the cable coating ticknesses a, b using ultrasonic waves and the measurement of the outside diameter D of the cable 5 and that d of the core makes it possible to individually obtain the true coating thicknesses a', b' of the cable immediately after its extrusion and thus to use the coating thickness for the control of the cable extrusion line. If the number of ultrasonic sensors 3' is increased, more reliable accuracy will be available. |
