PURPOSE:To provide a general purpose small-sized and light-weight torque sensor, capable of sensing the torque in analog value and without requiring any mechanical contact, by a cooperation between cams attached to primary and secondary shafts connected through a resilient member and non-contact type displacement gauges disposed around the cams. CONSTITUTION:A primary shaft 7 and a secondary shaft 8 are connected to each other through a torsion bar 15 and are rotatably carried at their outer ends by bearings 17 mounted in a housing 16. The primary shaft 7 is connected at its outer extremity through a coupling 19 to a motor 18 fixed to the housing 16. The primary and secondary shafts 7 and 8 carry cams 20 and 21, respectively. The shafts 7 and 8 carry also phase detection plates 22 fixed thereto at an equal rotational phase. Non-contact type displacement gauges 23 and 24 are fixed to the housing 16 so as to oppose to the peripheries of the cams 20 and 21 at a distance of several millimeters therefrom. As the load torque is applied to the secondary shaft 8, the torsion bar is twisted to produce a phase difference between the cam 20 on the primary shaft 7 and the cam 21 on the secondary shaft 8 while producing a difference in the measuring gap in both non-contact type displacement gauges 23 and 24. |
