A locking device for a lid cover for a container or similar with at least one openable lid. The locking device consists of a lock arm (14) mostly located in the container that meshes with a suitable locking section (12) on the lid (10) of the container and locks the lid in its closed position. The lock arm (14) is released form it meshing with the locking section (12) of the lid (10) with the aid of a roller element (26), which is at rest (24) in it horizontal position. When the container is tilted, the roller element rolls to a working position where it can affect the lock arm (14) directly or indirectly so that the locking device is released.
