PURPOSE:To quickly detect a direction that the surface of an object being examined faces and its shape by a method wherein the object is illuminated by monochromatic light from different angles with different wavelengths and a plurality of images are individually converted into electrical signals, which are then processed by computation. CONSTITUTION:A testing sample surface is set to face a predetermined direction beforehand and three monochromatice light sources 1a, 1b, 1c are used to illuminate the sample surface. A TV camera 5 is then employed to pick up the images, whereas the luminous intensity of tungusten lamps 2a, 2b, 2c or the amplification degrees of amplifiers 6a, 6b, 6c are adjusted so that three kinds of signals 21a, 21b, 21c separately outputted by the TV camera 5 are inputted to a comparator 7 at the same level. After the initial adjustment, an object 20 being examined is placed within the field view of the TV camera 5 and a surface 20a to be examined is located at the intersecting point of the optical axies of the monochromatic light sources 1a, 1b, 1c. When the surface 20a faces the predetermined direction, an output signal 8 is generated because the state in which the initial adjustment using the sample surface has been made is reproduced and because B, G, R signals 21a, 21b, 21c are inputted to the comparator 7 at the same level. Therefore, the generated output signal 8 can be used to confirm that the surface 20a has conformed to the predetermined direction. |
