An appliance for the comminution of tree stumps, having two cutting tools arranged in an essentially L-shaped manner and at a right-angle to one another, is so designed that the cutting tools lie one behind the other in the cutting direction, and the front cutting tool is arranged essentially vertically and has two individual cutters which themselves lie one behind the other in the cutting direction. The front individual cutter is advantageously designed as a cutting wheel. The entire appliance can be mounted as an accessory on an earth-moving machine.
