The invention discloses a method and a circuit with the aid of which the knocking combustion of a spark-ignition internal combustion engine is detected. A control, preferably using a microprocessor, automatically controls the threshold value, which serves to isolate knocking signals, to the optimum operating value so that individual adjustment in the case of series production due to tolerances and other influences is dispensed with.
