The ground working tool has a machine driven breaking instrument consisting of two outwardly extending prongs extending over the whole working width of the machine. The prongs are equi-spaced about a vertical axle which is driven by a geared drive. The angle of the prongs to the vertical axis of the drive is at least 24 deg. The working spread of the prongs is about half the depth from the gear and the spread is also equal to the distance between the axles of adjacent tools, so that adjacent units may be mounted side by side on a horizontal frame. The cutting edges trace osculating circles.
