An electronic component consisting of an electron gun (1) and a semiconductor diode (6) which are mounted in a vacuum tube has a current gain of 2000 and achieves an efficiency of 92 to 97% depending on switching frequency. The semiconductor diode (6) consists of a 1.2 mu m thick, heavily doped p-type layer (12), a 45 mu m thick, lightly doped p-type layer (13) separated from a 70 mu m thick, lightly doped n-type layer (15) by the p-n junction (14), and a 5 mu m thick, heavily doped n-type layer (16). <IMAGE>
