In a machining centre with a vertically displaceable work table (16) arranged in a vertical plane and rotatable about a horizontal axis, a turret head (24) pivotable about a vertical axis can be displaced on a compound slide (18) in two horizontal directions at right angles to one another. On its periphery, the turret head (24) carries radially arranged tools, preferably tool cassettes (26). In a cost-effective construction, the machining centre can carry out a number of machining operations, corresponding to the number of tools or tool cassettes, at high machining speed. Coolant and chips can drop down freely. A simple automatic workpiece loading and the possibility of interlinking to form production lines are guaranteed. <IMAGE>
