<p>According to the invention, the packing is performed by repeatedly carrying out a continuous cycle of dilating a section of the packing material to a greater diameter than the objects to be packed. Then, the object to be packed is moved through the packing material, with an undilated end section being grasped and the dilated material section subsequently drawn out of the dilating region in a relative manner until the object is completely enclosed. During the course of each such method cycle, the packing material is cut off from the material strand in the length required for the package.
