The present disclosure comprises an improved process of pulping lignocellulosic material and a composition for enhancement of the yield of pulp derived from lignocellulosic material. The novel composition which enhances the production of pulp comprises: a. between about 0.1 and 1.5 percent by weight, based on the lignocellulosic raw material treated, of anthraquinone; b. between about 0.1 percent and 10.0 percent by weight, based on the lignocellulosic raw material treated, of a promoter for the anthraquinone which comprises a metallic salt capable of donating a metallic cation selected from the alkaline earth metals calcium, barium, strontium,magnesium and zinc, with preferred species of this promoter being the compound calcium hydroxide. and the compound calcium oxide; and c. spent liquor from the outflow of the digester in a quantity up to 50% by volume of the total pulping liquor. The use of the improved process and novel composition will lead to an increase in the overall pulp yield of several percentage points of the total amount of pulp obtained. |
