In a cooling apparatus, distributor pipes (3, 4) are arranged transversely above and/or below the position where the rolled stock runs through, the said pipes being provided over the maximum width of the rolled stock with holes (7) to which are connected guide tubes (8, 9). To provide simple, rapid and accurate adjustment of the range of action of the cooling apparatus to the particular strip width, flaps (11) in the interior of the distributor pipes (3, 4) are assigned to the holes (7), the said flaps being secured over part lengths of shafts (10) and being pivotable by a prime mover (13). <IMAGE>
