A shaft lining (1) for lining deep shafts in unstable, water-bearing rock (2) has a water-tight, load-bearing, sliding inner lining cylinder (4) with an outer steel casing (8). The inner lining cylinder is arranged coaxially in an outer lining cylinder (3) and distanced from the latter by an annular gap (5) filled with a sliding fluid (5), for example soft asphalt. In order to obtain a light inner lining (4), which is thus as economical as possible, the sliding fluid (5) has a specific weight which increases with greater depth. The relatively low specific weight in the upper depth area permits a light inner lining (4), while the relatively high specific weight in the centre and lower depth area ensures the stability of the inner lining, which is heavier at this location. <IMAGE>
