Universal adjustability of different kinds of measuring or scribing instruments at the front end of the crossarm of a measuring or scribing machine is achieved by means of a receiving head (10) of comparatively simple design by arranging, between the part (14) containing a plurality of parallel receiving bores (36, 37) and the part (5, 6, 7, 8), fastened or capable of being fastened to the front end of the crossarm (1), of the receiving head (10), a joint (13, 16) whose axis is oriented transversely to the crossarm longitudinal axis, and by the axes of the receiving bores (36, 37) extending, at a distance from the joint axis, in a plane perpendicular to the joint axis. <IMAGE>
