The canvas-printing system indexes the canvas (5) forward by means of pins (9,10) inserted in holes in it and then moved sideways before withdrawl and return to the starting position. Ink or dye is applied by printing heads (48) coupled to the pins and moved with then in the travel direction of the canvas and back again. The pins can be arranged to engage in succession with the canvas, so that there is always one of them inserted in it, and also to move up and down in opposite directions and in the transverse direction in relation to each other at the same time.
