PURPOSE:To correctly recognize characters, by checking the degree of approach of line segments and processing the separation of them into substantial strokes. CONSTITUTION:Coordinate data for one character's share are stored in a coordinate memory 1 in the order of sampling. A polygonal line detector 2 detects a polygonal line approximated to an original pattern from a stroke start point or an end point of the polygonal line detected just before. A polygonal line registration controller 3 is provided with a polygonal line number counter 31, a distance calculator 32 and a discriminator 33, discriminates the effectiveness as to the polygonal line detected at present and registrates it in a polygonal line registration memory 4 according to the result. The processings like these are repeated and when they are finished for all the coordinate data for one character's share, the memory 4 stores the data of polygonal lines without unnecessary line segments. The content is picked up for the characteristics as the polygonal line approximation pattern for the original pattern, allowing to perform character recognition. |
