A tumbler dryer incorporates a split phase induction motor with a conventional start winding for rotating the drum of the dryer. The motor (M) has a control circuit for periodically reversing the direction of rotation of the drum during a drying cycle. The circuit comprises switches (S2A, S2B) for reversing the sense of connection of the starting winding of the motor and means for example a further switch (S1) for de-energising the motor to allow it to come substantially to rest before restarting in a different direction of rotation. The switches are operated by cams of a timing mechanism used to time the duration of a drying cycle. |
