Title compds. I (R = C1-17 n-alkyl or n-alkanoyl) were prepd. and the dielec. and phys. properties of their mixts. with other liq. crystal compds., suitable for use in nematic cells for electrooptical display devices, were detd. Thus, a mixt. of cyclohexene and Me(CH2)5COCl reacted with PhF contg. AlCl3 to give I≮R = trans-Me(CH2)5CO≉. A mixt. contg. 4-(trans-4-n-propylcyclohexyl) benzonitrile 27, 4-(trans-4-n-pentylcyclohexyl) benzonitrile 39, 4-(trans-4-n-pentylcyclohexyl)-4'-cyanobiphenyl 13, and I (R = trans-n-nonyl) (II) 21% had a nematic phase at -10 to +155≰C, a dielec. anisotropy of +10.2, and a viscosity of 20 cSt.
