PURPOSE:To execute recording with high density without expanding an optical spot, by using an incident surface containing a direction for minimizing the sectional shape size of condensed light, and a direction for maximizing the resolution of a formed image, as a plane of polarization. CONSTITUTION:An incident surface is selected as mentioned below, from among incident surfaces of incident light to a recording medium D, such as an incident surface containing a short side (a) in an optical spot A condensed or imaged on the recording medium, an incident surface containing a short side (c), and an incident surface containing a segment parallel with the short sides (a), (c), etc. That is to say, optical recording is executed so that an incident surface containing a direction for minimizing a sectional shape of condensed light, or a direction for maximizing the resolution of a formed image is made to coincide with a plane of polarization. Accordingly, even light which is made incident to the recording medium by a large incident angle is not reflected, therefore, the size of the optical spot is not expanded, and the incident light is used effectively for recording. |
