PURPOSE:To facilitate the operation of a copying machine which allows copying operation during the forward and backward movement of an original scanning system respectively, by returning the scanning system to its starting position for an odd-numbered copy after copying operation ends. CONSTITUTION:Copying operation is carried out even during the backward movement of a platen 4 by changing directions of reflection of a light beam through the switching of mirror 9, or by switching a lens 30 and a lens array 33 with a shutter 34, thus obtaining a copy of an erect image. After a copy of an odd-number of sheets is taken, the platen 4 is at a forward movement ending position 3. If copying operation is restarted in said state, variation in scanning distance due to magnification variation or trouble in specifying a paper discharge direction through a sorter may occur. For this purpose, the platen 4 is returned to a starting position and consequently, a scan starts at the starting position when copying operation is restarted. |
