PURPOSE:To produce a large deflection angle by low voltage disturbance, by applying an electric field to a dielectric for generating an electrooptical effect, and forming a nonuniform distribution of refractive index. CONSTITUTION:A pair of linear electrodes 2 are arranged in parallel at an interval D on the surface of a dielectric crystal 1 for generating an electrooptical effect. DC voltage V is applied between the electrodes 2. Incident beams A are projected at the center of the electrodes 2, and in parallel to them, and at a prescribed depth H from the surface of the crystal 1. Application of voltage to the electrodes 2 causes an intensity distribution of an electric field to produce a distribution of refractive index steeply changing in the thickness or depth direction of the crystal 1. The incident beams A are deflected in the course of transmission, and beams B deflected in the thickness direction are obtained at the other face. Projection and emission of the beams A, B are executed using an optical fiber. |
