The gripping device consists of a gripping part (1) and a manipulating part. The gripping part has a cylindrical gripping body (2, 3, 4) with operable gripping fingers (17) projecting downwards. A piston rod (7) arranged in a reciprocating manner in the gripping body acts with its one end on the gripping fingers (17) in order to move the latter between a swung-in position and a swung-out position with regard to the piston-rod axis (23). The gripping fingers are conveniently formed from spring-steel wire so that they elastically adapt themselves to the shape of the objects (26) to be gripped. The gripping device is especially suitable for manipulating delicate objects, such as, for example, crumbly bread, cakes and pastries. <IMAGE>
