1,114,474. Surfacing. ENGELHARD HANOVIA Inc. 11 Jan., 1966 [11 Jan., 1965], No. 1318/66. Heading B3D. A system suitable for sequentially surfacing flat sheets of glass and the like comprises a plurality of surfacing stations, some or all of which surfacing stations comprise a grinding wheel having a plurality of concentric fixed abrasive annular grinding means with abrasive particles bonded therein in respective predetermined concentrations and with substantially coplanar grinding faces, the outermost one of said concentric grinding means having a materially lower concentration of abrasive particles bonded therein than the adjacent grinding means, and the respective concentrations of the abrasive particles of corresponding grinding means in said grinding wheels of two successive stations being in a predetermined relation. The grinding wheels may be constructed as in Specification 1,102,628. Fig. 5 relates to a system having six surfacing stations, grinding wheels having four annular grinding means being used in the first four stations and grinding wheels having five annular grinding means being used in the last two stations, the Figure showing the concentrations of abrasive particles in the annular grinding means, the values A being those for the outermost annular grinding means and D or E for the innermost annular grinding means.
|
