The vehicle rear mirror is electrically heated, and supported in a protective cover, within which and in series with the heater element, a distance component is connected in a conduit to the element. Parallel with the distance component is a current-conducting di-metal bridge connected to the conduit end coupled to the distance component. The bridge connects electrically the two ends of the conduit coupled to the distance component, and on a predetermined temperature level within the cover being exceeded, breaks the electrical connection. The conduit ends are provided with flat pin contacts, and the distance component has the shape of a plate. The bridge one end is inserted together with the distance component in the one flat pin contact, and the other end of the bridge is in contact with the other flat pin contact.
