The lantern ring is intended for arrangements between sets(24A,B,C) of super-imposed packing rings in a stuffing box(22) with a gland(27), which are used as sealing assemblies for rotating shafts(21). It has external flanges(4 is one) at both ends that fit inside the packing chamber and define an annular space(37) between them. The inner dia. has a V-contour(7,8) annular groove separated by a central inner flange from an inner annular space(39) around the shaft. Inclined bores(16,18) extend in a radial direction from the chamber(37) to the groove(7,8) and to the space(39), resp.; and a connection(36) is provided to admit fluid to the chamber(37). |
