PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst carrier having high strength and high activity by coating Si powder on the surface of an Si3N4 sintered body and sintering the same to nitride after molding the sintered body to the shape of a catalyst carrier. CONSTITUTION:A formed body of Si powder is treated under heating for a few hours at 1,200-1,500 deg.C in a nitriding atmosphere of gaseous ammonia or gaseous N2 + H2 to nitride the same to Si3N4. The powder is formed into desired shapes like honeycombs, pellets, etc. by using slurry of Si + an org. binder (e.g.; methyl cellulose, etc.). |
