Installation comprises a reception hopper for grape must and a reversible, motor-driven elevator screw with its lower end in the must. The screw raises a quantity of must into a pressing chamber and continues to rotate to express sample juice through chamber perforations. The drained residue is rejected back into the hopper by reversing rotation of the screw. The axis of the screw elevator is inclined at an angle between horizontal and vertical and the elevator rests upon a similarly inclined wall of the hopper. The elevator screw casing is of semi-circular section to cover only the lower half of the screw. A removable cover for the top half of the screw is pref. fitted in retracted position, coaxially under the casing. The cover can be rotated through 180 deg. to enclose the top half of the screw. The bottom end of the sampling screw elevator is pref. located above the base of the hopper and well clear of any hopper discharge screw conveyor. Used in the winemaking industry for extracting sample of must from which a juice sample is automatically expressed. Even when the level of must is low in the hopper, the inclined screw will automatically extract a representative sample without any attention by an operator.
|
