PURPOSE:To remove the gas produced from a substrate and to equalize and stabilize characteristics of the lengthwise direction, by providing a gas adsorbing member at a place near a rotary can when a vertically magnetized film is formed on a macromolecular film substrate which moves along the circumferential surface of the rotary can. CONSTITUTION:A take-up mechanism of a substrate 1 is provided in an upper room 5 of a vacuum tank 4, and at the same time an evaporating source 3 is provided in a lower room 6 which is divided from the room 5 with partitioning walls 8 and 9. The substrate 1 is carried out along a rotary can 2 and moved to a take-up shaft 11 from a feed shaft 10. In this case, the gas (containing chiefly water content) which is discharged from the substrate 1 before vapor deposition and along the can 2 is condensed and adsorbed by an adsorbing panel 7 which is cooled by a refrigerant of <=-100 deg.C. Thus partial pressure of the water content is greatly reduced at the area near the substrate 1. In such a way, a magnetic layer is formed on the substrate 1 to stabilize the lengthwise electromagnetic characteristics of a long-size magnetic recording medium of the vertical recording system. |
