The chuck secures the shank (4) of a drill e.g. in a machine-tool drive spindle (11), using a conical adaptor (2) to locate the shank in a spindle sleeve (12) with a conical interior, and using a threaded outer sleeve (3) to secure the assembly. The spindle sleeve, and may be provided with slots for force fitted drive dogs (15), the dogs being located by axial adaptor grooves. Prongs (3') cantilevering from the trailing end of the outer sleeve may force the adaptor axially into the spindle sleeve. A spindle sleeve mortice, formed by a diametric slot-hole, may locate the drill tang (4a). A sprung ball catch indicates when the prongs align with the grooves to permit demounting.
|
