In the method according to the invention, a plurality of gas discharge lighting devices are simultaneously supplied from a common source. Although the parameters of the devices differ from each other, an adaptation of the user devices to the source is effected thereby obtaining a better efficiency, a longer life of the light bodies, an improved security of utilization and a better protection against accidents. The source comprises an energy converter with transformer; the secondary winding of the transformer is provided with a plurality of pairs of output terminals which perform a plurality of transformation ratios between the primary and the secondary. Each user and each series/parallel combination of users are supplied through the output terminals which perform the optimal adaptation. The light body according to the invention is provided, in addition to the main conventional electrode, with auxiliary electrodes which relieve the main electrodes.
