The drain valve for a blood pressure instrument shown can be manually switched into a quick-draining position and occasionally returns to its pumping-up and, as the case may be, normal draining position as a reaction to the first pump stroke. In a cylindrical inner space (2) to which a pump (5), the cuff (6) and an atmospheric orifice (31) are connected a control body (17) moves as a result of actuation of a handle (9) into the quick-draining position in which the connection between the cuff connection (4) and the atmosphere (31) is released by displacement of a sealing member (20) and in which a part-space (11) in which the pump opens remains separated. Actuation of the pump displaces the control body with the seal into the pumping-up and normal draining position by the pressure built-up in the separated part space, in which draining position the part space to which the pump is connected is connected to the cuff and is sealed against the atmosphere. <IMAGE>
