PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of the connection part of an optical fiber core by using a composite material of a member having a small coefficient of thermal expansion as a mold reinforcing material and plastics having the same coefficient with or welded to a coating material. CONSTITUTION:A composite tube for mold reinforcement consists of three plastic layers 6a, 6b, and 6c and two glass fiber layers 7a and 7b. In this case, relatively long fiber is used and its content ratio is about 30% while machanical characteristics and coefficient of thermal expansion of a mold reinforcing connection part are considered. Further, plastics are the same with a fiber coating material. When the composite tube is used, an optical fiber is inserted into the composite tube before being connected by heat sealing; and the core is connected and heat molding is performed. Consequently, the core never curves owing to thermal expansion and contraction, etc., and the connection part has extermely high reliability. |
