The subject of the invention is a rain protection device for motor vehicles which is arranged above one or more doors. Tarpaulins (4) which can be wound onto rollers can be extended by electric motors, in which case they are held by telescopically extendable struts (5). The holding devices (1) on which the rollers are attached are composed of the hoods (3) and the lower parts (2) which can be attached by means of magnetic discs to the roof of the vehicle. When the tarpaulins are retracted, they are wound onto the rollers by springs which are tensioned during the extension process. A warning lamp indicates to the driver when the rain protection device is in the extended position. <IMAGE>
