<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a shutter element with high resolution by arranging beltlike electrodes on both surfaces of a plate member in such a way that they never overlap with each other at mirror image positions. CONSTITUTION:The top and reverse electrode formation surfaces of a PLZT flat plate 3 are sandwiched between polarizing plates having mutually orthogonal axes of polarization to constitute an optical shutter element. When a voltage is applied to the (i)th beltlike electrode on the top surface which is one of voltage applied elements in a group 5 for opening the shutter, the part where light is passed through shutter operation is limited to the part A shown by longitudinal lines and when a voltage is applied to the (i+1) the beltlike electrode on the reverse surface, said part is limited to the area B shown by lateral lines. In this case, there is no electrode part which cuts off light between the areas A and B all the time, and consequently a large number of shutter gates are obtained while the influence of the electrode parts of the optical shutter element is reduced.</p> |
