The invention relates to a method and device for storing and transmitting data in telecommunications systems with a subscriber directory which can be actuated by means of a triggering device (10) and which can swing open onto different levels in a position suitable for reading, and with a memory space allocated to each subscriber of the directory. The object of the invention is to indicate a method by which a double actuation of triggering devices is not required in at least one level. This object is achieved by buttons disposed alongside the directory which are allocated to individual memory spaces of the directory. By switching the directory over to a different level, the buttons are automatically switched over to the memory spaces allocated to the upper level.
