To preserve foodstuffs which can be boiled, a cooking pot (1) of conventional type, holding the goods to be preserved, is used as a preserving vessel, on which the pot lid (2) can be placed with insertion of a sealing ring (5) between a peripheral rim (3) of the pot lid (2) and a seating rim (4) of the cooking pot (1) and which can be held in place by means of an elastically sprung clamp bracket (10), which can be clamped across the pot lid (2) and which can be anchored by means of its bracket ends (11) at opposite handles (8) of the pot (1). <IMAGE>
