A discharge device (10) for electrostatic discharges has a discharge tube (12) and a conductor (16) which is connected thereto. If the device is being carried by someone on whom an electrostatic charge builds up or if it is attached to an object which has a tendency to build up an electrostatic charge, the built-up energy is discharged via the device without earthing. The discharge process can be observed.
