PURPOSE:To detect a focus stably and with high accuracy even if an image of an object to be photographed contains a lot of high space frequency components, by using a photodetector array whose photodetector width for detecting the image of the object to be photographed is equal to or less than the sampling interval. CONSTITUTION:A photodetector array 5 photoelectrically converts an image of an object to be photographed, which has been formed on said array, and outputs data Ai (i=1-n) of space distribution of the image of the object to be photographed, which has been spatially sampled at an interval DELTAx. Said data Ai is added to an adder Pi, and is added to output data from each adjacent photodetector in said adder. The adder Pi outputs output data Bi=Ai+Ai+1. A focus detecting operator 10 is constituted of said data Bi, a photodetector 5' and an adder Pi', inputs data Ci regarding the space distribution of the image of the object to be photographed, which has been obtained through an optical path different from said path, and generates a focus detecting signal E. |
