The metal being chosen from the group made up of the metals of groups VIII, IB, IIB of the periodic classification of the elements, as well as chromium, vanadium, molybdenum and tungsten, the said metal is introduced in an oxidised form into the carrier, generally by ion exchange. According to the invention an electrochemical reduction of the said oxidised form is performed.
