<p>An eccentrically locatable and rotatably mounted hub (12) has a plurality of hydraulically extendable and retractable spokes (11) in the form of piston-cylinder arrangements (13, 14) leading from the hub and extending to the wheel rim (8), and being slidable or otherwise displaceable on said rim at the ends remote from the hub (12); the hub communicates with and is rotatably mounted on axle means (6) which also distribute and control hydraulic fluid supplied to the spokes (11) so as to cause said spokes to be extended over one half of the circle of the wheel and to permit retraction over the other half of the circle so that, in use, the hub (12) is located in a position eccentric to the centre of said wheel rim and offset in the direction of intended motion, and rotation of the wheel rim (8) is thus caused. <IMAGE></p> |
