The applicator is intended for the delivery of material, such as animal vaccine, and comprises an applicator head 2 having a chamber 8 and a needle 3. The needle 3 is at least partially enclosed by a hood or cover 6, which is arranged to be moved axially relative to the needle. A reservoir 1 for material to be delivered, or vaccine, is provided and fastened to the applicator head. Valve members connect the chamber 8 to the needle 3 and also connect the reservoir to the chamber. The above-specified axial motion of the hood or cover relative to the needle opens the valve between the needle and the chamber and allows material in the chamber, such as vaccine, to be fed from the chamber through the needle. The chamber 8 has a movable wall 8a and activation members 26, 27, which are connected to a trigger 35. When the trigger is activated, the spring-loaded activation members cause the movable wall 8a in the chamber to move outwards from this, open the valve between the reservoir and the chamber and draw a stock of material to be delivered, or vaccine, into the chamber. A measure or portion of material to be delivered is held in the chamber 8 until the valve between the chamber and the needle is opened upon axial motion of the hood 6 relative to the needle 3. <IMAGE>
