1,164,530. Diagnostic device with polymeric developer. MILES LABORATORIES Inc. 17 May, 1967 [23 June, 1966], No. 22881/67. Heading B1X. [Also in Division C3] Compounds capable of coupling with diazonium salts (e.g.α- or #- naphthol) can be detected in a liquid, which may contain such a coupling compound, by adding to the liquid a water-insoluble polymeric colour developer which contains aromatic diazonium salt groups attached to a cation exchange resin by means of amide linkages (see Division C3), and observing any colour development due to diazo coupling. For test use, the polymeric colour developer can be coated on, or incorporated in, a carrier material, e.g. it can be coated on filter paper to provide sheets containing colourdevelopable zones, or it can be mixed with cellulosic fibres in aqueous medium in order to prepare paper strips or discs containing colour-developing material; also, the polymeric developer can be incorporated into tablets. The colour developer can also be used in the detection of systems, e.g. enzymatic systems, which can be made to liberate coupling compounds, by treatment with a coupling compound precursor substrate, e.g.α- or #- naphthyl phosphate. Thus, in Examples, the developers are used to investigate phosphatase activity in suspect serum or in milk.
|
