PURPOSE:To avert low temp. brittle cracking occurring in 475 deg.C brittleness by storing hot slabs of a specific temp. range of materials other than ferritic stainless steel in a heating furnace under no heating, stacking continuously cast warm slabs of ferrite single phase stainless steel by or without removing said slabs and heat insulating the slabs. CONSTITUTION:A heat insulating furnace is of a box shape consisting of a body 11 and a top cover 4, which body 11 and conver 4 are applied with steel plates 1 on the outer side, linings 2 by castable refractories on the inner side thereof and further linings 3 of fiber fluxes on the inner side thereof. Steam pipes 9 are buried in the linings 3. The cover 4 is opened and warm slabs of 200-700 deg.C of materials other than ferritic single phase stainless steel are stored into this heat insulating furnace under no heat insulation, whereby the furnace is preheated. After the warm slabs are removed or without removing the slabs, continuously cast slabs of ferritic stainless steel are stacked thereon or alongside the same, and, if necessary, steam is supplied to the pipes 9 to heat the slabs, so that the slabs are held at >=50 deg.C until the slabs are charged into the furnace. |
