PURPOSE:To scarf the flaws on the surface of an ingot efficiently, by making a scarfing head movable at a right angle to the moving direction of the ingot and swivelable and controlling the movements of the ingot and the scarfing head in accordance with required operated values. CONSTITUTION:When the flaws (a), (b), (c) on the surface of an ingot S exist in proximity in an angle theta direction with respect to the moving direction A-A' of the ingot, the head 6 must move at a vsintheta speed in a direction B-B' and the ingot S at vcostheta in the direction A-A' in order for the ingot S and the head 6 to move at the relative speed (v). A set signal (d) for scarfing depth and a detecting signal theta for rotating angle are inputted to a scarfing speed operator 21 which converts the signal (d) to the scarfing speed (v) and operates visntheta, vcostheta. A scarfing start signal is applied from a scarfing control switch 16 to the operating device 21 to move the ingot S in the direction A'-A and a scarfing head carriage 4 to the direction B-B' via motor controllers 22, 23 at prescribed speeds, whereby the flaws (a), (b), (c) are scarfed diagonally continuously. |
