PURPOSE:To improve the quality of slabs and to prevent burst accidents in a continuous casting device by detecting the liquid level of the molten steel in a mold and measuring the temp. of the molten steel. CONSTITUTION:Molten steel 2 is poured into a mold 2, and while the molten steel is solidified by cooling, the molten steel is drawn out from below, whereby a slab 5 is formed. On progression of the formation of the slab 5, the liquid level of the molten steel 2 in the mold 4 falls gradually lower. When the liquid level of the steel 2 in the mold 3 is hign, there are not escaping paths for an inert gas and the pressure in a pipe 17 is high. When the liquid level of the steel 2 goes lower than the small holes 13 of a refractory pipe 12, the inert gas is discharged through the holes 13 and the pressure in the pipe 17 drops, and whether the level of the steel 2 is above or below the holes 13 is discriminated by a pressure sensor 18. The visual field of an optically measuring device 20 for temp. viewed from the preceding end of an optical fiber 19 improves the accuracy of optical measurement for temp. because the surface of the steel 2 is always covered with the inert gas and is clean without contact with air. |
