The rack comprises plates(20,30,40,50) of flattened U-shaped cross-section forming cells(11,11a,11b,11c,11d) each of four mutually attached plates. The cells are joined in a square array to form cavities(16), one between each adjacent pair of cells & of smaller cross-sectional area than a cell(12). Each pair is pref. flat & rectangular with two tabs extending away from the plane of the plate along the length of opposite sides for attachment to adjacent plates forming the cell. Each cell holds a fuel assembly & each cavity can receive neutron absorbing material.
